Biography

Kristin Franseen is a postdoctoral associate in musicology at the Don Wright Faculty of Music, Western University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Women's Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, a Master's degree in Music History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a PhD in Musicology from McGill University. Her research and teaching interests include identity, canon formation, and critical biography within the context of 18th-19th century Western art music. Franseen’s current project, 'The Intriguing Afterlives of Antonio Salieri: Gossip, Fiction, and Post-Truth Musical Biography', investigates the intersection of fact and fiction in Salieri’s popular reception, focusing on the anecdotal and speculative narratives that surround his life and works. She has published her findings in various journals and has forthcoming chapters discussing the historical representations of Salieri and other composers. Her scholarly contributions extend to public engagement through podcasts and guest appearances, aiming to make academic knowledge accessible to broader audiences. Her forthcoming book, 'Imagining Musical Pasts: Queer Literary Musicology', explores queer feminist methods in music analysis, and she actively contributes to discussions around historical accuracy in musicology.
