Kristin Gainey is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychological Science at the University of Western Australia, where she directs the Emotional Wellbeing Lab. A registered clinical psychologist in the United States, her research and clinical work focus on the affective processes related to depression, anxiety, and overall wellbeing. Recent studies incorporate heart rate variability to examine emotion regulation in daily life. She is interested in assessment, multivariate statistical analysis, and ecological momentary assessment designs. Before joining UWA, Kristin served as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York from 2013 to 2020. She completed her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Iowa and pursued a clinical internship at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, followed by a postdoctoral position at Boston University. Kristin’s research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and she has received early career awards from the American Psychological Society, the American Psychological Association, and the Society for Research in Psychopathology. She actively reviews for journals and serves as an Associate Editor for Psychological Assessment and Self Identity.
