Kristin Mahoney’s research focuses on the afterlives of late-Victorian Decadence in the twentieth century. Her book, 'Literature Politics Post-Victorian Decadence' (Cambridge University Press, 2015), examined authors and artists linked to the late-Victorian Decadence in England, Italy, Ireland, and South Africa, engaging with the World Wars, the rise of the Labour Party, Irish nationalism, and new sexological categories of the early-twentieth century. Her forthcoming book, 'Queer Kinship Wilde' (Cambridge University Press, 2022), continues this exploration, challenging conventional boundaries of periodization and discussing Oscar Wilde's influence on radical ideas of kinship during the fin de siècle and modernist moments. Mahoney's investigative work incorporates letters, diaries, unpublished manuscript materials, fiction, poetry, and life writing, shedding light on the networks of affiliation associated with Victorian Decadence. Her articles have been published in 'Victorian Studies', 'Victorian Literature and Culture', and 'Criticism'. Mahoney serves as an editor for 'Cusp: Late 19th-/20th-Century Cultures' and is associated with 'Nineteenth-Century Literature Transition: 1890s'. Before joining Michigan State University, she taught at Western Washington University.
