Kristin McGee is a Senior Lecturer in Jazz at the School of Music, Australian National University. She previously chaired the popular music program at the Arts, Culture and Media Department at the University of Groningen. Her research areas encompass jazz and popular music, gender and music, audiovisual media, film music, and performance practice within live music contexts. A member of the Arts in Society Research Center and Society for Ethnomusicology, she completed her Master’s in Saxophone Performance at Northwestern University and her PhD in Ethnomusicology from the University of Chicago. Her works include the significant publication 'Some Liked it Hot: Jazz Women in Film and Television, 1928-1959' and 'Remixing European Jazz Culture.' Her research interests also delve into intersectionality and critical race theories as they apply to contemporary musical cultures, alongside practice-based approaches to ecocriticism and local soundscapes.
