Biography

Kristin S. Seefeldt is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan's School of Social Work and the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. Her research predominantly focuses on low-income individuals and their economic circumstances, exploring the complexities surrounding work and financial strategies within families. She is currently leading a survey examining the effects of recession recovery policies on these individuals. Seefeldt's important contributions to the field include her book "Abandoned Families", published by the Russell Sage Foundation, which discusses how institutions have historically supported economic security but currently fall short in aiding low- and moderate-income families, particularly families of color. Additionally, her co-authored work, "America’s Poor During the Great Recession", evaluates the challenges faced by welfare recipients in maintaining employment and achieving a balance between work and family responsibilities. Her academic background includes a Ph.D. in Sociology and Public Policy from the University of Michigan, along with previous degrees from Georgetown University.
