Dr. Kristina Fagan Bidwell

Biography

Kristina Fagan Bidwell is a Full Professor and Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Storytelling at the University of Saskatchewan. Her research program focuses on the intricate interactions between Indigenous and settler communities through storytelling, exploring how narratives shape conflict, identity, and knowledge across cultures. She examines various forms of storytelling, including literary texts, oral narratives, and public discourse, to develop principles and practical tools that enhance collaborations between Indigenous and settler groups. Bidwell has a strong professional background in academia, having served as the Associate Dean of Aboriginal Affairs within the College of Arts and Science from 2011 to 2018. As an advocate for Indigenous literary studies, she is the current President of the Indigenous Literary Studies Association. Additionally, Bidwell has supervised numerous graduate students on diverse topics related to Indigenous art and literature, emphasizing ethical engagements and kinship within Indigenous knowledge systems. Her family's rich storytelling heritage and her own experiences inform her scholarly work, making her a prominent figure in the field of Indigenous studies.
