Biography

Kristina Talbert-Slagle is an Assistant Professor at the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs and a core faculty member at the Yale School of Medicine’s Equity Research Innovation Center. She is a global health educator focused on addressing global health educational disparities through high-quality, interactive teaching and locally-appropriate responsive scholarship in her field programs. With doctoral training in genetics and virology, and postdoctoral training in complex systems and health systems strengthening, Talbert-Slagle approaches her work with an interdisciplinary perspective. She is part of a long-standing partnership with colleagues at the University of Liberia and the Liberian Ministry of Health, working to establish academic programs that aim to strengthen Liberia's health workforce. As a principal investigator on a $15 million project in collaboration with the University of Liberia and Vanderbilt University, funded by USAID, she has served as the faculty director for health management and preclinical education programs. Her research published in leading global health journals examines factors influencing equity in international partnerships and innovative health workforce capacity-building approaches, including medical education in Liberia. At Yale, she has developed and taught various global health courses for undergraduate and graduate students, including seminars addressing global health research and practice, HIV/AIDS, and the role of water in the spread of infectious diseases.
