Biography

Kristoffer Balslev Willert is a philosopher and social theorist engaged in understanding human social systems and their interactions with non-human natural systems, particularly in relation to issues surrounding climate change and biodiversity. His academic specialties include environmental sociology, politics, critical theory, Marxism, and modern German philosophy, including the works of Kant and Early German Romanticism. His research revolves around the interplay between planetary crises, values, power dynamics, capitalism, and prevailing worldviews including anthropocentrism and patriarchy. He aims to envision and articulate alternative ecological futures and mobilize contemporary activism to manifest these futures. Willert has edited four significant volumes addressing the Danish climate crisis from various perspectives, and his works have been published in several notable journals including Environmental Humanities and the British Journal for Philosophy of Science. He is also an active participant in public discourse through various media outlets. Currently, he is involved in a postdoctoral project examining the concepts of action within the framework of environmental theory as part of the SDU Climate Cluster project PACA, focusing particularly on grassroots activism for climate justice in Denmark.
