Dr. Kurt Drury

Biography

Kurt Drury is a physician scientist specializing in pediatric critical care. He provides clinical care in the pediatric intensive care unit and is focused on research related to the long-term outcomes of patients admitted to this setting. As an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Critical Care at the University of Chicago, his work emphasizes the identification of patient groups at risk for specific deficits and changes in quality of life after discharge from the hospital. Dr. Drury's research particularly explores the effects of sedation and analgesia on critically ill children and aims to improve practices related to their liberation from the ICU. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Indiana University and participated in Teach America, teaching high school physics. His residency in pediatrics was completed at Advocate Children's Hospital Chicago, followed by a critical care fellowship at Oregon Health Science University Portland, where he also earned a Masters in Clinical Research.
