Dr. Kurt Haas

Biography

Haas trained in electrophysiology and molecular biology imaging. His research focuses on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms of early brain circuit formation in normal and disease states, particularly in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). His laboratory employs innovative techniques for gene delivery and microscopy to achieve direct rapid imaging of neural growth activity in an intact awake developing brain. To unravel the origins of ASD, Haas’s laboratory utilizes high-throughput human cell line assays to validate and characterize gene mutations found in individuals with ASD. He expresses these mutations in individual neurons within the intact developing brain to assess their effects on neural structural and functional development.
