Biography

Kurt holds a faculty position as Associate Teaching Professor in the University of Washington’s Master Healthcare Administration (MHA) program and operates an independent consulting practice. With thirty years of experience in the field of organization development and eighteen years of direct leadership experience, he focuses on providing innovative methods for individuals, teams, and organizations to learn and develop. His work primarily involves helping leaders to fully develop their leadership craft and the capacity to lead teams through the complex challenges they face. Kurt has been with the University of Washington (UW) Medicine for fifteen years, serving seven years as Director of Organization Development Training, where he has worked with leaders and teams at the executive level and has provided direct bedside care. Before joining UW, he spent twelve years as an active duty officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. Kurt earned his Master’s degree in Human Resources Organization Development (MHROD) from the University of San Francisco in 1997 and has co-authored a book titled 'Leading Adaptive Teams in Healthcare Organizations', in addition to contributing articles and being an invited speaker on a range of leadership topics. He resides in Poulsbo, WA on the Kitsap Peninsula with his wife, Kelly, and enjoys hiking, kayaking, and traveling.
