Dr. Kwaku Asante

Biography

Kwaku Poku Asante is an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. He is a public health physician and the director of the Kintampo Health Research Centre in Ghana, which is a leading center for health research in the country and the African region. Dr. Asante's work focuses on conducting multidisciplinary research to address health challenges and improve healthcare delivery in Ghana. His research areas cover a wide range of health topics, including infectious diseases, child health, reproductive health, non-communicable diseases, environmental health, and health systems strengthening. With over 20 years of experience in the field, he has made significant contributions to public health research, particularly in Ghana and surrounding countries. He played a pivotal role as a leader in the Ghana Randomized Air Pollution Health Study, which sparked numerous environmental health investigations. Currently, Dr. Asante is the principal investigator in Columbia World Projects, a collaborative initiative aimed at addressing household air pollution and implementing clean energy solutions. He is recognized for his expertise and mentors students in research endeavors, boasting an impressive publication record with over 100 scholarly articles to his name. Moreover, he is a member of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology and is currently serving as the Chair of the African Chapter of ISEE.
