Dr. Kyle Crowder

Biography

Kyle Crowder is a faculty member in the Department of Sociology at the University of Washington. He received a BA in Sociology from the University of Washington in 1990 and completed his PhD at the State University of New York at Albany in 1997. His professional background includes working as a counselor and caseworker prior to his academic career. Crowder has previously held faculty positions at Western Washington University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before returning to the University of Washington in 2011. His research interests encompass demography, environment, neighborhoods, race and ethnicity, research methods, social stratification, inequality, and urban studies. He is extensively involved in research that examines processes of residential differentiation and how physical and social contexts influence individual life conditions. His recent projects focus on neighborhood selection, racial and ethnic differences in residential mobility, and the broader patterns of residential segregation. Crowder frequently collaborates with colleagues from various disciplines and local housing authorities to analyze factors that impact residential stability and access to high-opportunity neighborhoods.
