Biography

Kyle M. Lancaster is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Cornell University. His research primarily focuses on biophysical, inorganic, and bioinorganic chemistry, particularly the study of transition metal complexes and metalloenzymes. He employs a combination of synthesis, biochemistry, and a broad array of spectroscopic techniques, emphasizing synchrotron-based core spectroscopies, to explore the reactivity of these complexes. His current research includes transformations pertinent to the biogeochemical nitrogen cycle as well as C–H functionalization. Lancaster has received numerous awards for his contributions to chemistry, including the Society of Biological Inorganic Chemistry Early Career Award in 2024, and being named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2023. His work has significantly enhanced the understanding of nitrogen cycle processes and the underlying chemistry governing metalloenzymes.
