Dr. Kyle Whyte

Biography

Kyle Whyte is the George Willis Pack Professor and University Diversity & Social Transformation Professor at the University of Michigan, where he serves as the Faculty Director of the Tishman Center for Social Justice and the Environment. His academic pursuits are focused on environmental justice, particularly on moral and political issues facing Indigenous peoples amid climate change. Whyte coordinates the environmental justice graduate specialization within the School for Environment and Sustainability. His interdisciplinary work spans several significant roles, including being a co-Principal Investigator at the Global Center for Understanding Climate Change Impacts on Transboundary Waters and a Faculty Associate in Native American Studies. Whyte's research engages with cooperative relationships between Indigenous peoples and scientific institutions. He is an enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation and has contributed his expertise to various committees and boards dedicated to advancing Indigenous rights in relation to climate change. He has authored reports for major organizations, including the U.S. Global Change Research Program and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
