Biography

Kylie Hwang is an Assistant Professor in the Management and Organizations area at the Kellogg School of Management. Her research examines how businesses can alleviate the systemic inequalities faced by marginalized populations in the labor market. In particular, she investigates the entrepreneurship pathway for marginalized groups to overcome labor market discrimination and achieve economic and social integration. Her current work focuses on marginalized groups such as justice-impacted individuals, racial minorities, and people with disabilities in the United States. Professor Hwang primarily adopts quantitative method approaches using restricted administrative survey data, while also incorporating qualitative in-depth interviews and experiments. Her research has been published in leading journals including the American Journal of Sociology and the ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. Her work has been featured in testimony to the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, as well as in popular press outlets such as the Washington Post and Forbes.
