Biography
Kylie James is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of New South Wales and the head of the Gut Immunogenomics Laboratory. She completed her PhD in Immunology at the University of Queensland in 2016, focusing on T cell immunity related to malaria. Following her doctoral studies, she undertook postdoctoral training at the Wellcome Sanger Institute under the supervision of Dr. Sarah Teichmann, after which she received a junior research fellowship at Christ’s College, University of Cambridge. Her research has significantly contributed to understanding how neighboring microbiota shape the intestinal immune cell landscape, particularly through the development of a cell atlas of the human intestinal tract. In 2021, she returned to Australia to lead a team as a Spinak Fellow and NHMRC Investigator Fellow, where her laboratory employs single-cell spatially-resolved gene expression technologies to investigate cellular and microbial contributions to intestinal disease.
