Kynan Hughson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Forestry and Geology at the University of New Brunswick. His research focuses on understanding the geological, geophysical, and hydrological processes that shape the surfaces of Earth and other objects in the solar system. He is particularly interested in how landforms inform the formation, internal structure, and composition of groundwater and ground ice in glacial and periglacial environments. He utilizes a combination of remote sensing, geophysical field methods, and geophysical modeling to understand the hydrogeologic structure, dynamics, and stability of hillslopes and permafrost features. His research projects include the Pingo SubTerranean Aquifer Reconnaissance Reconstruction (Pingo STARR), which aims to characterize the subsurface structure of active pingo systems in the North American Arctic, and the Chill Hills project, which explores the geology and hydrology of pingo-like morphologies on Ceres. His work contributes insights into both terrestrial and planetary analog environments.
