Dr. Kyong Tak

Biography

Kyong Mi Tak has thirty years of experience teaching the Korean language. She has held various positions in teaching, curriculum development, staff management, and language program management with institutions such as the Department of Defense, the Department of the Army, and the U.S. Department of State. At the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, she currently teaches and manages the Korean language program. She has developed validated textbooks and course curriculums for Korean language instruction at different levels and has played a key role in developing language training programs tailored for diplomats and consular officers working in embassies and consulates abroad. On behalf of the Department of Defense, she managed a foreign language instruction program with 80 instructors across more than 12 languages. Her work ensures that a wide variety of professionals, including diplomats, military staff, government officials, congressional staff, and business professionals, are well-prepared to work effectively both internationally and domestically. In 2022, she was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award for Language Instruction at Johns Hopkins University/SAIS and has previously received awards for her excellence in language teaching from the Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training and the U.S. Department of State.
