Biography

KJ (Kyoung Jin) Choi is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary, having joined the faculty in July 2011. He holds dual PhDs in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis and in Mathematics from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), along with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH). His teaching includes courses in FinTech, Futures Options, and Topics in Corporate Finance and Asset Pricing at undergraduate, MBA, and Ph.D. levels. KJ's research interests encompass real financial investments with a focus on blockchain technology and Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). He is involved in the Model X project at the Bank of Canada, contributing to the architectural framework for the Canadian CBDC. KJ has published studies examining optimal staking strategies in cryptocurrency markets and the implications of CBDCs on the financial landscape. He has earned several awards, including the Dean’s Award for Unparalleled Learning Opportunities and multiple grants for his research in finance.
