Dr. L Mahadevan

Biography

L. Mahadevan is a Professor of Physics at Harvard University, holding dual appointments as the de Valpine Professor of Applied Mathematics and as a Professor in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology. His research is centered on understanding the organization of matter in space and time, with a particular emphasis on characterizing shape and flow at everyday scales. This focus is closely tied to empirical experiments conducted within a small laboratory environment. His past work has explored problems at the intersection of mathematics, classical continuum mechanics, and statistical physics, subjects which hold enormous explanatory power and have deep historical roots.
