Dr. Lacramioara Bintu

Biography

Lacramioara Bintu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at Stanford University. Her research focuses on single-cell high-throughput measurements and the dynamics of chromatin gene regulation. Bintu's lab utilizes data to develop predictive models aimed at improving mammalian cell engineering. She first ventured into the study of gene regulation during her undergraduate years at Brandeis University under the guidance of Jané Kondev. She then worked with Rob Phillips at Caltech before pursuing her Ph.D. in Physics at the University of California, Berkeley, where she engaged in single-molecule methods to understand molecular mechanisms of transcription and nucleosome function under the supervision of Carlos Bustamante. Following her doctoral studies, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Caltech, further transitioning to investigate the dynamics of epigenetic regulation in live cells under Michael Elowitz's mentorship.
