Dr. Lael Parrott

Biography

Lael Parrott is a Professor and Dean of the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science at The University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus. He holds cross-appointments in the Departments of Earth, Environmental and Geographic Sciences, and Biology. Prior to joining UBC, he was an Associate Professor of Environmental Geography and Director of the Complex Systems Laboratory at Université de Montréal from 2001 to 2012. Parrott leads a recognized research program focused on modeling and characterizing regional landscapes and complex human-environment systems. His work emphasizes a holistic perspective on managing land and water resources at a landscape scale, advocating for the reconciliation of ecological, societal, and economic objectives through innovative approaches. He has been acknowledged as one of the 25 'movers and shakers' in Quebec, highlighting his significant contributions and ideas for the future. A native of Vancouver, BC, he maintains a strong connection to the region's landscapes and currently serves as Vice-President of Access Environment on the National Board of Directors for the Alpine Club of Canada, balancing his time between work, family, and the outdoors.
