Biography

LaFleur Stephens-Dougan earned a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Political Science from the University of Michigan. Her research interests include racial attitudes, Black politics, and public opinion. She is the author of the book 'Race to the Bottom: Racial Appeals That Work in American Politics' published by the University of Chicago Press in 2020. Her work has been recognized with the 2021 Ralph J. Bunche Award from the American Political Science Association and the 2021 David O. Sears Book Award from the International Society of Political Psychology. Professor Stephens-Dougan has received grants from the National Science Foundation’s Time-Sharing Experimental Social Sciences program, the Russell Sage Foundation, and the Social Science Research Council. Her research has been published or is forthcoming in several notable journals, including Journal of Politics, American Political Science Review, Electoral Studies, Annual Review of Political Science, and Journal of Race, Ethnicity, and Politics.
