Lailea Noel is an Assistant Professor and Meadows Foundation Fellow at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on the influence of social inequities on health access and the utilization of mental health services, particularly in residentially isolated rural communities. With a passion for community-based systems science research, she has a wealth of experience in engaging communities, social scientists, and medical practitioners through research partnerships. Notably, Dr. Noel has successfully recruited members of marginalized populations for community-engaged research. Prior to her current position, she served as the Donald D. Harrington Faculty Fellow, focusing on rural health issues in Central Texas through the Hogg Foundation Mental Health funding. Currently, she is involved with a project supported by the American Cancer Society to improve access to mental health care for cancer survivors living in rural areas. Her work in rural health equity has gained national recognition, and she serves on the Boards of the Association of Community Cancer Centers and the Association of Oncology Social Workers.
