Biography

Laimonis Laimins is the Chair of the Department of Microbiology-Immunology at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. He is also a Guy Anne Youmans Professor in the same department. His research primarily focuses on papillomaviruses and their role in cervical cancer, specifically studying epithelial cells and their differentiation processes. Laimins completed his PhD at the University of Chicago in 1981 and underwent postgraduate training as a fellow at the National Institutes of Health in 1985. His work has contributed significantly to our understanding of viral oncology and the mechanisms underlying various human diseases, including cancer.
