Biography

Lais Landim Gomes is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Endodontics at the University of Saskatchewan. He holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, an MSc in Endodontics, and a PhD in Prosthodontics & Dental Materials from São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil. His academic career involves a multidisciplinary approach to the development of biomaterials for use in Endodontic therapy. Dr. Gomes has researched the enhancement of antimicrobial and adhesive properties in endodontic sealers, supported by funding from the FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation). During his Master’s program, he studied the impact of apical extrusion of sodium hypochlorite on the cleaning of root canals and their biological properties. His PhD research involved the development of an innovative photopolymerization device associated with hollow glass fiber posts for the rehabilitation of endodontically treated teeth. His work has been recognized with awards at conferences, including the Brazilian Group of Dental Materials (GBMD) XXXV Scientific Initiation Conference at UNESP. Dr. Gomes has completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Biomedical Engineering Department at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, where he gained expertise in cardiovascular research and the development of biomaterials for medical applications. He has published numerous manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and has successfully obtained research funding from the provincial Fonds de Recherche du Québec for his postdoctoral program. His research focuses on the development of biomaterials for Endodontic therapy and the association between systemic diseases and treatment outcomes, alongside oral rehabilitation of endodontically treated teeth.
