Dr. Laleh Gharahbaghian

Biography

Laleh Gharahbaghian is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University. Born in Iran, she moved to the United States at a young age and grew up in San Diego. She has been a strong advocate for social determinants of health and has worked as a paramedic before entering medical school. Her professional pursuits have focused on emergency medicine, healthcare advocacy, and improving systems of care. Dr. Gharahbaghian completed her medical education at the University of California, Irvine, followed by a residency in Emergency Medicine and an Ultrasound fellowship at Stanford. She has taken on leadership roles within the department, serving as the Director of Emergency Ultrasound and the Medical Director of Adult Emergency Medicine, where she has implemented numerous process improvements. Her research interests include professionalism in patient-provider interactions, high-quality care advocacy, point-of-care ultrasound applications, and medical education. A leader in ultrasound education, she co-directs UltraFest, a national ultrasound symposium, and has developed various online educational platforms. Dr. Gharahbaghian is committed to high-quality care and ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to necessary healthcare services. She has received numerous teaching awards and continues to work clinically, advocating for patient safety and quality improvements.
