Biography

Lamees Al Ethari is an Associate Professor in the Teaching Stream at the University of Waterloo. Her academic journey began in Baghdad, Iraq, where she pursued her interest in English language and literature. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in 1999 from Al-Moman University College and a Master of Arts in 2002 from the University of Baghdad, she won a Fulbright Scholarship that enabled her to complete another Master of Arts at Kansas State University in 2008. Later, she arrived in Canada and joined the PhD program at the University of Waterloo, graduating in 2014. Throughout her career, Lamees has focused on the experiences of non-native English speakers and has dedicated herself to teaching and researching literature that reflects the diasporic experiences of Arab women. Her published works include books, poetry, and journal articles that explore themes such as identity, motherhood, and migration in contemporary narratives. She currently teaches and continues her research into Arab women's literature and the cultural implications of storytelling within diasporic contexts.
