Dr. Lan Du

Biography

Lan Du is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University. He is highly regarded for his interdisciplinary research that incorporates machine learning and artificial intelligence to address real-world issues. He believes that the key to unlocking AI's full potential lies in bridging the gap between advanced AI research and practical applications. His prominent research interests include text analytics, machine and deep learning, and natural language processing. He has made significant contributions to understanding semantics in free language texts, focusing particularly on areas such as active learning, uncertainty estimation, and knowledge distillation. Lan Du also holds the position of Chief Examiner for various units within his faculty, including Applied Data Analysis and Data Wrangling. He is committed to furthering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through his work. He received his Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science from the Australian National University in 2012, and he also holds bachelor's degrees in Information Technology and Communication and Information Technology from the same university and Flinders University, respectively. Lan has collaborated on numerous projects, including those aimed at harnessing business insights from unstructured customer data and developing AI-powered risk predictions.
