Lance Forshay has been a Teaching Professor and ASL Language Director at the University of Washington since the beginning of the ASL minor program in 2007. He earned a B.A. in Secondary Education Mathematics from Gallaudet University in 1992 and an M.S. in Ministry from Ambridge University in 1998. With over 30 years of teaching experience in a variety of educational settings, he has taught at both high school and university levels. His primary career focus since 1999 has been in teaching ASL and Deaf studies. His interests lie in Deaf Culture Studies, Audism Oppressions within the Deaf community, Deaf Christian Heritage, ASL Fingerspelling Phonology, ASL Verb Morphology, and Sign Vocabulary Etymology. He has been recognized for his teaching excellence, receiving the UW Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award in 2014.
