Lance Manuel is the Texas Atomic Energy Research Foundation Professor at the Fariborz Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Stanford University in 1993, and has an M.S. from the University of Virginia and a B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Prior to his academic career, he worked for seven years as a consulting engineer on projects focusing on probabilistic seismic risk and hazard analysis for nuclear power plants. His research revolves around modeling uncertainties in load response characteristics of civil engineering infrastructure systems and the interaction between climate change and renewable energy, particularly in ocean environments. He has been a registered civil engineer in Texas and California and is a fellow of several professional engineering societies. He currently serves on the Executive Committee as vice-chair of ASME’s Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering Division and is the editor-in-chief for ASME’s Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering.
