Biography

Landon Schnabel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Cornell University. His research primarily investigates issues of social inequality, including gender inequality and its intersections with sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and class. Schnabel explores how unequal social relations are maintained through ideological legitimations, examining the role of religion in supposedly compensating for inequality by offering social, psychological, and material benefits to marginalized groups, while also reinforcing existing inequalities. His work takes a broad perspective on the study of inequality and social change, focusing on the factors that both limit and facilitate opportunities and well-being among diverse groups.
