Biography

Lang Tong joined Cornell University in 1998 as the Irwin and Joan Jacobs Professor of Engineering. He is the Cornell site director for the Power Systems Engineering Research Center (PSERC). His current research focuses on optimization, machine learning, market operations, and smart grid future energy systems. A Fellow of the IEEE and a distinguished lecturer for the IEEE Signal Processing Society, he received the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Alternative Energy in 2018. Professor Tong has made significant contributions across multiple technical fields such as electrical engineering, signal processing, communications, networking, and power systems, earning various paper awards from IEEE societies. His students have won seven student paper awards, highlighting his dedication to fostering new talent in the field.
