Lara graduated from the University of Sydney in 2004 and initially worked in feline general small animal practice in Brisbane and Canberra. She completed internships at the Animal Referral Hospital in Sydney and the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom. Lara completed an International Cat Care sponsored residency in small animal medicine at the University of Bristol and then returned home to Australia in 2013 to work as a specialist at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Sydney. She is a member of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, specializing in Small Animal Medicine, and a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Feline Medicine. In 2018, she became a senior lecturer in small animal medicine and in 2021, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her research interests primarily include feline endocrinology, infectious diseases, urology, gastroenterology, and toxicology. Lara is actively involved in clinical teaching and plays a significant role in coordinating various veterinary courses. She has also contributed to research regarding seroprevalence and risk factors for leptospirosis in cats in Sydney, Australia, as well as investigating functional cobalamin deficiency in hyperthyroid cats. Lara is a member of both the Australian Veterinary Association and the International Society of Feline Medicine.
