Professor Dr. Larissa Sexton Finck

Biography

Larissa Sexton-Finck is the Deputy Head of the School of Social Sciences at the University of Western Australia, serving as a senior lecturer in Media Communication. With decades of teaching experience, she specializes in Digital Storytelling, Screenwriting, Filmmaking, and Strategic Communication at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has supervised numerous Honours and Master's students and is an experienced examiner. Larissa believes that mainstream stories and representations play a critical role in shaping Western culture's vision of human agency and identity politics. Her current research interests encompass narrative reframing, creative analytical practice (CAP) ethnography, feminist film, and the impact of storytelling. As Deputy Head of the School (Education), she leads a large and diverse learning and teaching portfolio, focusing on research-informed, multimodal approaches to pedagogical innovation and curriculum design to enhance student engagement. Throughout her career, she has contributed to various boards and committees and has received numerous awards for her excellence in teaching and contributions to student learning.
