Larissa Tiggelers is an Associate Professor in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Regina. Her primary research areas include practice-based research in abstraction, which is materially expressed through painting, collage, and drawing. She is steadfastly interested in exploring articulations of care, mindful color selections, and soft cumulative gestures. Her established painting practice investigates the unknowability of color and the limitations of authorship, often reflecting quiet expressions of care. Grounded in feminist epistemological inquiry, she studies color knowledge and color theory. Tiggelers holds an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Guelph (2017) and a BFA in Fine Arts with Distinction from Alberta College of Art & Design (2010). Her work has been exhibited in several venues, including Norberg Hall in Calgary, Christie Contemporary, Erin Stump Projects in Toronto, Galerie D’Este in Montréal, and the Art Gallery of Alberta in Edmonton. Her works are included in both private and public collections, such as the Royal Bank of Canada, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and Global Affairs Canada. She has also served in various roles at Calgary-based artist-run centers, culminating in her position as Director of Stride Gallery in 2015. From 2020 to 2023, she was a board member of the Regina-based artist-run center, Neutral Ground.
