Dr. Larry Gorenflo

Biography

Larry Gorenflo is a professor in Landscape Architecture, Geography, African Studies, and Anthropology at Pennsylvania State University. He serves as the faculty-in-charge of the Environmental Inquiry Minor and is the director of Latin American Studies. Holding the Eleanor R. Stuckeman Chair in Design at the Stuckeman School, Gorenflo is recognized internationally for his research, which focuses on the co-occurrence of linguistic and biological diversity across geographic scales. His work emphasizes the importance of integrating conservation efforts, particularly concerning Indigenous languages and protected areas. Gorenflo's research on prehistoric landscapes in Basin Mexico reveals insights into regional settlement and human ecology. He utilizes Geographic Information System (GIS) technology and various analytical methods to study human interaction with terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. He teaches courses that involve conservation planning and urban design with ecological emphasis.
