Biography

Larry W. Kostiuk is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University. He completed his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Calgary in 1983, and then pursued his M.A.Sc. at the University of Alberta, finishing in 1985. He received his Ph.D. in Engineering from Cambridge University in 1991. Following this, he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from 1991 to 1993 before returning to Canada as an Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta. His career includes notable roles, such as Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering from 2002 to 2012, and Associate Vice-President of Research from 2015 to 2018. His research interests focus on chemical reacting flows, combustion, thermodynamics, and energy conversion systems. Kostiuk has held visiting positions in France, India, and the UK, contributing to his extensive experience in the field. He has been recognized as a Fellow of both the Canadian Academy of Engineering and the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering, reflecting his contributions to research and applied engineering excellence.
