Biography

Lars Hinrichs is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his Ph.D. in English Linguistics from the University of Freiburg in 2006. His research interests include Sociolinguistics, Corpus Linguistics, Contact Linguistics, Pidgins and Creoles, and Computer-Mediated Communication, focusing on Texas English and urban contact dialects. As the director of the Texas English Project, he investigates the varieties of English spoken in Texas. His dissertation work analyzed the use of English Creole in online communication among Jamaicans and provided insights into the syntactic differences between British and American written English from a statistical perspective. Hinrichs has been a faculty member at UT since 2007 and is committed to educating students in various aspects of English language and literature, teaching courses such as Introduction to English Language and Multilingual Texas.
