Biography

Lars Lott has been a research associate at the Institute of Political Science since February 2022, working with Professor Katrin Kinzelbach on the Academic Freedom Index project in collaboration with the V-Dem Institute. He holds a PhD in Political Science from Heidelberg University, focusing on the effects of regime types on political behavior and preferences. Lott's research interests include democratic resilience, regime transformation conceptualization and measurement, the political economy of inequality, and the determinants of academic freedom. He has published in peer-reviewed journals such as Perspectives on Politics, Democratization, and Political Studies. Prior to joining FAU, he worked as a research associate at Heidelberg University and as a research fellow at the German Institute for Global Area Studies in Hamburg. Lott is also actively involved in various research projects examining the dynamics between autocratization and democratic mechanisms.
