Professor Dr. Lars Pedersen

Biography

Lars-Flemming Pedersen is a Senior Researcher at the Technical University of Denmark specializing in aquaculture with a focus on water quality. Since 2002, his work has encompassed applied research in commercial fish farms and Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) in Denmark. His research activities include testing water quality and developing methods for monitoring and controlling water quality. He has worked on optimizing chemical disinfection techniques, employing alternatives to formalin such as peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide. Lars also assesses factors affecting nitrification performance in biofiltration, focusing on the impact of media type, disinfectants, salinity, temperature, and maintenance practices. He has developed innovative techniques to control microbial carrying capacity in RAS and new methods for monitoring microbial water quality. Collaboration is central to his work, engaging with various commercial RAS companies and research institutions both nationally and internationally. He has been involved in multiple research projects that address critical challenges in aquaculture, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
