Dr. Lars Tønder

Biography

Lars Tønder is a Professor of Political Theory at the University of Copenhagen, where he also serves as Deputy Head of the Department of Political Science and Head of Studies for Political Science in the Faculty of Social Sciences. His research focuses on the intersections of democratic politics and climate change, emphasizing new materialism, affect theory, democratic innovations, and citizen participation. Tønder has published in prominent journals including Perspectives on Politics, Political Theory, and Environmental Politics. He has previously held academic positions at the University of Melbourne and Northwestern University, contributing significantly to discussions on tolerance and democracy in the context of ecological crises. Tønder is also an advisory board member at Denmark’s National Center for Climate Research and has been involved in several large-scale research initiatives and conferences, demonstrating his commitment to addressing contemporary political challenges through rigorous scholarship.
