Biography

Lauchlan T. Munro is a socio-economist and manager who joined the University of Ottawa in July 2012. Prior to that, he served as Vice-President of Corporate Strategy and Regional Management at Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC) from 2008 to 2012. Munro also held roles such as the Director of Policy Planning and Chief of Staff at IDRC from 2004 to 2009. His previous experience includes being Chief of Strategic Planning at UNICEF (2000-2003) and working in various capacities within UNICEF in DR Congo, Zimbabwe, and Uganda. He has also been a member of the Royal Bhutanese Civil Service from 1985 to 1987. Munro has taught project management at Fordham University and economics at the University of Manchester. His research interests focus on poverty, human rights, social protection, economics, risk management, public sector management, and national development planning, with a geographic emphasis on Zimbabwe and Bhutan. He holds a B.A. (Hons.) in Political Science and Economics, an M.A. in Development Studies from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. in Management Economics from the University of Manchester.
