Biography

Laura Amigo is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Media and Journalism (IMeG) at Università della Svizzera italiana and a lecturer in communication at the University of Lille, France. Her research examines the transformation of journalism in the context of digital technologies, uncovering the dynamics between news media, journalists, and audiences in negotiating authority and establishing lasting connections. She has led the development of complementary lines of inquiry including the use of digital technologies that analyze how emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, reshape journalistic practices and organizational approaches. Laura studies how journalists and news organizations foster connections with audiences through participatory initiatives that extend the scope of news production, particularly in local media. She also investigates the reconfiguration of journalistic authority in response to societal critiques and technological change, focusing on the role of news literacy and emotions in sustaining journalism’s legitimacy. Laura has collaborated on national and European research projects and has been funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the French National Research Agency (ANR), among others. She has given over fifty talks at conferences and has taught invited lectures at universities in Switzerland, France, Belgium, and Italy.
