Biography

Laura Blumenschein is an Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. She received her Ph.D. from Stanford University in 2019, and her master's and bachelor's degrees from Rice University in 2016 and 2015, respectively. Dr. Blumenschein's research focuses on growing robots, soft robotics, bioinspired systems, wearable robots, haptics, and soft matter, addressing fundamental research areas and application domains primarily in biomedical fields and human-machine interaction. Over her academic career, she has been recognized as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow from 2015 to 2019 and received several awards including the Alan J. Chapman Award for Mechanical Engineering in 2015 and the Edgar Odell Lovett Service Award in 2015. She is also a recipient of the Louis J. Walsh Engineering Scholarship in 2011 and was part of the Century Scholars Program that same year.
