Dr. Laura Camfield

Biography

Laura Camfield is a respected academic leader in Development Studies. She has held senior roles on governing bodies of major disciplinary organizations, including the Development Studies Association (DSA) and the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI). Her leadership extends to various critical areas, including well-being and poverty measurement, interdisciplinary and cross-national mixed methods research, and research governance. Laura's work is characterized by a strong ethical framework, advising on revised ethical standards for research through institutions like the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Her research interests focus on using qualitative mixed methods to evaluate poverty and well-being, particularly in developing countries, with a special emphasis on children and young people's perspectives. Laura has developed numerous funded projects, generating significant research income, and has an extensive publication record, including peer-reviewed journal articles, special issues, books, and book chapters. She is also actively involved in PhD supervision and teaching, sharing her expertise in qualitative research methodologies. Her current research priorities include enhancing methodologies for data collection in the Global South and supporting rigorous evaluations through innovative approaches.
