Biography

Prof. Laura Classen conducts research in condensed matter physics with a focus on correlated quantum materials and the methods of quantum field theory. Her work investigates the collective behavior of materials and interacting electrons, leading to fascinating states of matter that serve as the basis for applications in quantum technology. Prof. Classen aims to understand the mechanisms behind the formation of these states and to elucidate their characteristic properties. She completed her studies in physics at RWTH Aachen University, obtaining her PhD from the University of Heidelberg in 2016. Subsequently, she worked as a postdoc and Feodor-Lynen Fellow at Brookhaven National Laboratory and the University of Minnesota from 2017 to 2020. In 2020, she joined Brookhaven National Laboratory as an Assistant Scientist and became an independent research group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research from 2021 until 2023, before taking her current professor position at the Technical University of Munich.
