Dr. Laura Coates

Biography

Laura Coates is a NIHR Research Professor and Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences. Her research primarily focuses on psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and spondyloarthritides, particularly in terms of early diagnosis and the development of specific validated outcome measures for PsA. Laura has led multiple studies aimed at improving the screening processes for PsA, with a goal to prevent the onset of the disease in at-risk populations, particularly those suffering from psoriasis. She co-leads multiple studies within the European HIPPOCRATES consortium and is involved in developing smartphone applications to predict arthritis. Throughout her career, she has contributed significantly to the field of PsA research, having published extensively and been awarded multiple honors, including eight UK Scopus Young Investigator Awards and the University of Leeds Women of Achievement Award. Laura is also a member of the Steering Committee for the Group for Research Assessment in Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA) and the British PsA Consortium (BritPACT). Her work has influenced international recommendations and has been recognized for its impact on clinical practices.
