Laura Dearden is a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Research Fellow and Assistant Research Professor at the Institute of Metabolic Science at the University of Cambridge. Her research group utilizes murine cellular models to identify the influences of the in utero environment on the development and subsequent function of brain feeding circuits, which drive the causes of obesity. Dearden is interested in intervention strategies that can be employed during pregnancies complicated by obesity to limit the impact of maternal metabolism on offspring brain development. Furthermore, her work investigates how pregnancy alters adaptations in the maternal brain during the peri-partum period. Her research is funded by the Royal Society, Rosetrees Trust, and the EU Horizon Scheme. Dearden also serves as the scientific research lead for the EDI Wellcome DRP-funded Research Culture project at IMS and is the chair of the University of Cambridge AWERB 3Rs committee.
